Roman Late Antiquity
The term “Late Roman Antiquity” is used to refer to the period of Roman history that runs from the 5th century AD to the 11th century AD. During this period, the Western Roman Empire collapsed and Italy was ruled by a series of different peoples, including the Ostrogoths, the Lombards, and the Byzantines. One of your ancestors may have been a Roman soldier who fought in the battles that led to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Another of your ancestors may have been a Roman citizen who lived through the social and political changes of Late Roman Antiquity.
